On January 20, 2002, less than a year after the massive earthquake that struck the State of Gujarat, India and made millions homeless, the people of the Nani Matli village were presented with a brand new village, complete with 173 homes, water supply, school and medical clinic. The new village, built on a new site with stable soil and with earthquake resistant construction and rainwater harvesting, was built in such a short time through efforts of the Rotary Clubs of Vadodara and Jamnagar. Cherry Hill Rotary Club participated in the planning effort and provided substantial portion of the total project cost of $600,000.
Rebuilding of the Nani Matli village is just one example of the projects that Cherry Hill Rotary Club participates in internationally. Other international projects that Cherry Hill is currently participating in are: a primary care hospital in India, orphanage in Dominican Republic and a school in South Africa.
